Pair of large cabriolet “bergères” in moulded and carved walnut, decorated with flowers and foliage. Very comfortable, these bergères offer optimal comfort. Although these bergères are not stamped, the vigour of the curves, the specificity of the carving and the use of the most beautiful walnut obviously remind us of the work of Pierre Nogaret, the famous carpenter in Lyon.
Among the characteristics of the very high quality of these chairs are the depth of the moulding, particularly at the level of the arm brackets, which are in the form of a "coup de fouet"; at the embossing of these arm brackets in the lateral crosspieces, the sculpture is characteristic of Nogaret, with a clasp that emphasises the "coup de fouet". The balance of the base is also remarkable, with the rear legs projecting slightly outwards, and the front legs vigorously worked, the tips of the legs perfectly in line with the outer curve. The carving of the stylised flowers is also typical of the Lyon carpenter.
These bergères are in a good state of preservation. They have undergone a magnificent and complete restoration, in carpentry and tapestry; they are covered with a Rubelli fabric.
