Rocaille Mirror - Louis XV Period

Dimensions : H. 122 x W. 80 cm

Beautiful mirror made in lime woodrichly carved and gilded “à la feuille”. First of all, one must observe the perfect balance of the proportions. Indeed, many mirrors that are too square or too long are unattractive; this often reveals a later modification in the dimensions

This is a work done in Paris as evidenced by the choice of lime wood and the quality of the abundant, deep and openwork sculpture. The decorative repertoire is Rocaille, a style born in the middle of the Louis XV period: symmetry is abandoned, the curves are accentuated, and the openings are numerous.

This mirror is in very good condition. The gilding has been restored but it remains more than 80% original. The missing and replaced parts of the carved wood are minimal. The mercury glass is original, slightly pitted. At the back, the fir-wood floor is original, attesting the absence of modification
